Nokia Siemens to Inks Network Expansion Deal with BSNL

According to EETimes, Nokia Siemens and Indian BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) have signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on July 3 for mobile network expansion worth of US$900 million. Pursuant to the agreement, Nokia Siemens will help BSNL with its GSM and NGN (Next Generation Network) expansion by deploying an extra of 1.8 million NGN ports nationwide.

On July 2, Nokia Siemens also announced that it will inject US$100 million over the next three years to set up a plant for wireless network equipment in Tamil Nadu, southern India. Apart from the establishment of the plant, the investment will also be used to set up new offices and to expand its R&D centers and Global Networks Solution Center. Construction of the plant is slated for late 2007, with mass production scheduled for 2008.
